Around six years ago, when I could barely speak any English, I began watching different YouTube videos in English. I mostly watched make-up and fashion tutorials, free English lessons, and song covers.
As time went on, I found out about a band called Boyce Avenue. On average, they had a few thousand views per video and most of the time they made acoustic covers of famous songs.
I remember buying their songs on iTunes, and listening to them repeatedly when I was travelling, going for walks, or even getting ready for school. Boyce Avenue became my favourite band, and I could not stop sharing their music with my family and friends.
Soon enough my best friends at school started listening to this band, and even started following them in social media. We found out that Boyce-Avenue is a Puerto Rican- American rock band formed in Florida, USA by three brothers called Alejandro, Daniel, and Fabian. An interesting fact I learned about this band a couple of years ago is that the band is named after a combination of two streets the brothers lived on as children.
With the years passing by, Boyce Avenue became increasingly famous, reaching more than 1 billion views in their YouTube channels a couple of months ago.
When I came to Quest last year, I was very surprised that my roommate from Brazil, Barbara, knew about them as well. We both talked about the band, listened to their songs, and often sang their songs aloud.
A few weeks ago, I was browsing in the Internet and somehow ended up searching upcoming events in Vancouver and the Sea to Sky corridor. Surprisingly, I found out that Boyce Avenue were coming to Vancouver to perform some of their most famous original songs and also covers. I was extremely excited and immediately let some of my friends know!
Within a couple of days, we bought our online tickets!
I could not believe that within two weeks I was going to see Boyce Avenue perform live, my favourite music band since I was 13 years old.
The day we were going to the concert, Barbara, Martina, Brian, and I met in our dorm, and then went to Vancouver together. We were all laughing, sharing stories from childhood, and talking about the music band. I had never been to a concert before, thus, this night was very special to me.
The concert was amazing. Everything, from the opening singer such as Kris Allen, the atmosphere in the crowd, to the Boyce Avenue’s amazing performance. It truly was a night to remember, and I am really happy that I shared this experience with such good friends.
