To begin, A very delayed welcome to the class of 2016!
As you can imagine, with the addition of 153 students comes the addition of a lot of work and thus explains my delayed post on the subject.
On Friday, August 31st, our school was stormed by students, families, friends, pets, and bag after bag of luggage.
It was so great to meet everyone that I did and I look forward to meeting those of you who I haven’t met yet around campus. Click here for more photos of move-in day.
The next two days after move-in consisted of our orientation where students went mountain biking, hiking, hanging, frisbeeing, swimming, and all sorts of things and ings.
A very important event that took place that weekend which marks the beginning of every students’ journey through post-secondary education, was Convocation. Convocation is an annual ceremony where matriculating students walk a stage in front of their families and peers in order to sign the honour code and shake president Helfand’s hand. Convocation included speeches by our head of academics, Jim Cohn and our Student Representative Council President, Dustin Eno. Jim explained the value of a liberal arts education with historic references to back him while Eno made an astute back of the envelope calculation in order to proclaim that more people have visited space than have graduated Quest therefore making our graduates some of the most unique individuals around.
