The first years are now almost done their second class on campus (Rhetoric) and the rest of us have resettled in almost entirely as we prepare ourselves for a wet and wild semester. September is long gone and now that the weather has taken a turn for the wet, it’s nice to reminisce about the early days on campus this year.
The very first funded proposal of the SRC this year was for a ballpit inspired by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfHV4-N2LxQ
Step 1: Setting up the ballpit (including writing questions on 500 balls)
A Student Affairs member taking a de-stressing break in the ballpit box upon hearing that it will be set-up in the atrium.
The ballpit was incredible because people were in it almost all the time, strangers really did meet, and people cleaned up after themselves whenever they made a mess. There’s no denying how fun it can be to throw around soft plastic objects at friends, but the community is such that whenever this happened, everyone took part in ensuring all balls were put away before leaving.
The ballpit has now been moved to one of the floors in residence and is no longer on the minds of all members of the community, but one day it will reappear and the glory of taking a seat and making friends will be reinstated.
