…Because we have such an awesome community!
Today, we got the day off from classes – midweek, which actually doesn’t happen very often because of the block system. It was community day, the second community day of the year, and this one featured a health and wellness theme.
The day began with our residence floor getting together. From 8am – 9:30 every floor had a healthy breakfast with quite the spread: pancakes, eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola, and juice. The rest of the day there were scheduled workshops that students were able to sign up for. Everything from Suicide Awareness, Self-Defense, Queer Competency Training, and Green Therapy, to Dream Yoga and Creative Drumming plus many more. I personally chose to sign up for the CPR/first aid certification, which was the only workshop with a fee, but at $40, almost half its normal price. The day ended off with a one-woman play, entitled “Dissolve”, which addressed the topic of drug facilitated sexual assault. It was an incredible performance by actress Emmelia Gordon as she played more than a dozen different characters.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the day, and it reminded me of how grateful I am to be a part of such an amazing community on campus.
