"Mommy and Me!"–Hiking up The Chief with the BEST MOM EVER!

You’ve had a really intense block and in the last day or two all you can think about is block break.  You realize that you’ve been so focused on your block that you haven’t planned anything but you really want to get out and do something.  So… what do you do?!

Well, I was in that very situation last block!  I had an intense class and was so ready for block break.  I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I got SUPER lucky and got to hang out with my mum!  This is an extra special treat for me because I’m from Chicago so I don’t get to see her that often.  We were really excited and got to do a ton of fun stuff together.

Here is a selfie that my mom and I took! She set up the camera on her backpack and ran over to me while I was sitting on this fence. We were sitting at the second lookout point on the Shannon Falls trail. It was crazy beautiful that day!

One of the way cool things we got to do was hike The Chief.  Hiking The Chief is one of the most popular things to do around here.  Many locals do it weekly or even daily while passers through do it once or twice as a tourist treat.  There are two hiking trails up The Chief.  One that starts at the parking lot and one that starts at the nearby Shannon Falls.  We decided to take the Shannon Falls approach.  There are also three peaks that you can choose to summit, (the 1st, 2nd and 3rd peak.)  The last two are connected and easy to summit together, but the first peak is slightly separate, so it takes a little longer to do all three.  We also chose to only summit the first peak.

My mum is a photographer so we decided to make our hike a “photo hike”.  We both got to take some BEAUTIFUL photos, (featured below).  We got up to the top just as the sun was dipping lower in the sky, talked to a few locals, (one hiked The Chief in 37 minutes with her two dogs!  Apparently her husband can hike it in under a half hour!  CRAZY!  But also way rad!!) and got down to the car just as it was getting dark.  We got sushi at a local favorite, Sushi Sen, and watched a movie and went to bed later that night.  It was a pretty perfect day.

Although we did a ton of other fun things, hiking The Chief was the highlight of her trip.  It was her first real summit and it was one beautiful day outside.  I couldn’t have asked for a better day!

I know many of you are probably trying to escape your parents, (Sorry parents!  I’m sure you’re awesome!!!)  Just let this be a lesson that even though you’re leaving home, (I am WAY far away from my home!) you can still have an incredible time with your parents.  I bet you they are even cooler than you think.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the day…

This is what I decided to do on the summit! It's WAY hard to do handstands on a surface that's not flat!
